About this award
This two-year, $2.07 million project grant from the Department of Commerce's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will fund operation and maintenance of three salmon hatcheries in Oregon as part of the Pacific Coast Salmon Recovery Pacific Salmon Treaty Program (CFDA 11.438). The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will oversee annual operation of the Bonneville, Oxbow/Herman Creek Ponds, and Umatilla hatcheries, producing approximately 1.87 million fish to supplement prey for endangered Southern Resident killer whales. Funding will also cover pathology services, fish identification, and fish distribution directly related to hatchery maintenance. As a cooperative program assisting states in fulfilling salmon restoration responsibilities under the Pacific Salmon Treaty, this grant aims to aid recovery of Pacific salmon populations across Oregon.
