About this award

The Academy Foundation, on behalf of a national consortium of film archives and libraries, was awarded a $211,540 Project Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services' National Leadership Grants program (CFDA 45.312) to research and design a searchable online resource for underrepresented film collections. The grant-funded project will develop a dataset gathering individuals and film titles from secondary sources related to social, gender, racial, ethnic, ability, sexual orientation, and cultural identities. Researchers and scholars across the country will be able to use the online resource to more efficiently discover films and individuals historically marginalized or excluded from the American film canon. The planning project has the potential to advance practice in the museum and library fields by strengthening services for the American public through improved access to underrepresented film collections.
