Federal Grant Award Summary

Featherfist, a woman-owned and Black American-owned nonprofit organization based in Chicago, Illinois, received a Project Grant award of $326,457 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Assistant Secretary for Community Planning and Development under the Continuum of Care (CoC) Program (CFDA 14.267). The award, effective June 1, 2026 through May 31, 2027, supports the organization's mission to provide comprehensive housing and supportive services to vulnerable populations, with particular emphasis on veteran families and individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Under this CoC Program award, Featherfist delivers a range of eligible services spanning five program components: permanent supportive housing and rapid rehousing, transitional housing, supportive services only, and Homeless Management Information Systems (HMIS). Specific services provided include outreach, case management, assistance in obtaining Veterans Affairs and public benefits, temporary financial assistance for child care and emergency housing, transportation support, and rental and utility payments. These activities align with the CoC Program's overarching objectives to promote community-wide commitment to ending homelessness, quickly house individuals and families while minimizing trauma and dislocation, and optimize self-sufficiency among persons experiencing homelessness.
