Description
Rankin county family drug treatment court (fdtc) treatment access and family engagement enhancement project - the purpose of the rankin county family drug treatment court treatment access and family engagement enhancement project is to expand the capacity of the family drug treatment court (fdtc) to reach more participants, their families and children, and to increase access to treatment for substance abuse use/CO-occurring disorders (cods). The fdtc population of focus is parents/caregivers in the geographic catchment area of rankin county, mississippi, who have entered the youth court system for an abuse/neglect case, require treatment for a substance use disorder and/or COD, and voluntarily join the fdtc program. The fdtc aims to expand to meet the needs of the families in the program by providing a more comprehensive range of evidence-based practices for participants, their families and children. This will be accomplished by expanding the fdtc team with new staff members, increasing program capacity to provide services for up to 45 people per year (the unduplicated reach will be 195 participants over the life of the project), expanding wrap-around case management and community resource services to include the families and children of fdtc participants, and advancing behavioral health equity by providing funding for treatment services including residential services, intensive outpatient programs, outpatient services, group, individual, and family trauma-informed counseling services. Expanded case management services for participants, including wellness services such as HIV/STD testing and treatment, wellness plan, assessment, referral to treatment, intervention, community resource linkage and other evidence-based practices will be the focus of the expanded fdtc team with the addition of a new full-time case manager. A full-time certified peer support specialist will be able to share lived skills, tools and information to support the participants as well as their families in their road to family RE-engagement. The intake officer will use validated and certified assessment tools to provide assessment, intervention, and referral to treatment services for fdtc participants and youth court clients who are not eligible for the program, but nonetheless require assistance. The project will also provide transportation assistance to participants in the form incentive gas cards to help alleviate the burden of managing and funding transportation across our rural county to receive services. Fdtc will also work with the mississippi state university social science research center and their evaluator to implement and refine data evaluation measures and processes for program improvement.
