Description

EMS academy for dammeron valley fire & rescue, a rural EMS agency - dammeron valley fire & rescue is responsible for legally required EMS and fire response to a district encompassing 110 square miles with substantial increases in housing and infrastructure development, call volume, and demand for service. In 2021 our call volume increased 34% prompting the need for new positions and upgraded shift cycles. Over the last two years, dvfr's call volumes increased 50%. The nearest additional agency that can provide EMS is more than 30 minutes away and often unavailable to respond. According to the CDC, deaths from drug overdose in utah increased 18.4% from 550 for the 12-months ending in march 2020 to 651FOR the 12-months ending in march 2021. In washington county, deaths from drug overdose increased 75% over the same period from 24 to 42 indicating that substance abuse incidents and overdoses are disproportionately affecting rural areas and dvfr must be prepared to respond to increased calls of this nature. Dvfr will leverage this program to conduct multiple EMS training and certification activities, including two EMT certification academies: one basic EMT academy and one advanced EMT academy.
