- The National Cancer Institute awarded Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Inc. $606,749 on August 13, 2026, under the Cancer Biology Research program (CFDA 93.396) to investigate novel functions of cell cycle proteins in G1/S phase progression and cancer. The research examines the molecular roles of the cyclin B–CDK1 kinase complex in regulating cell cycle entry and DNA synthesis. Aim 1 uses mouse and human cells to identify the range of molecular functions played by cyclin B–CDK1 during G1/S phase....
- The National Cancer Institute awarded Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Inc. $235,491 on May 1, 2026, under the Cancer Research Manpower program (CFDA 93.398) to support research training and career development in cancer research. The award funds investigation into high-count monoclonal B-cell lymphocytosis (HC-MBL) and its relationship to mosaic chromosomal alterations, particularly deletions in chromosome 13q and trisomy 12. The research will examine phenotypic consequences of HC-MBL across two...
- The National Cancer Institute awarded the University of Massachusetts Medical School $111,645 under the Cancer Research Manpower program (CFDA 93.398) on January 1, 2026, to support research training in basic and clinical cancer research. The award funds investigation of the functional role of CAMK2B loss in pancreatic cancer metastasis, examining how deletion of the calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II beta gene enhances tumor metastasis and creates an immunosuppressive tumor...
- The National Cancer Institute awarded Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Inc. $645,102 on July 1, 2026, under the Cancer Biology Research program (CFDA 93.396) to support research investigating the molecular mechanisms governing WEE1 kinase transition from CDK inhibitor to substrate in cell cycle control. The project addresses how WEE1 kinase shifts between functioning as an active enzyme and as a substrate for phosphorylation at the G2-to-M cell cycle checkpoint. The work focuses on the N-terminal...
- The National Cancer Institute awarded Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Inc. $191,484 on August 13, 2026, under the Cancer Research Manpower program (CFDA 93.398) to develop and validate computational methods for early cancer detection using mutational signature analysis. The project expands mutational signature methodology to identify DNA repair deficiencies in high-risk patients with genetic predisposition to cancer. Aim 1 broadens the predictive framework to detect multiple types of DNA...
- The National Cancer Institute, a division of the National Institutes of Health under the Department of Health and Human Services, awarded $134,000 to the University of Massachusetts Medical School on September 3, 2026, under the Cancer Biology Research program (CFDA 93.396). The recipient will conduct research employing genetically engineered mouse models to elucidate mechanisms by which loss of CAMK2B (calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II beta) promotes metastasis and immune...
- The National Cancer Institute awarded the University of Massachusetts Medical School $136,840 on December 1, 2025, under the Cancer Research Manpower program (CFDA 93.398) to investigate replication gap suppression in chemoresistant BRCA mutant cancers. The award funds research into the factors contributing to chemoresistance in BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutant hereditary breast and ovarian cancers. The work addresses a critical clinical problem: tumors frequently develop resistance to current...
- The National Cancer Institute, a component of the Department of Health and Human Services National Institutes of Health, awarded Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Inc. $134,919 under the Cancer Research Manpower program (CFDA 93.398) on June 11, 2026. The award funds structure-function and mechanistic studies of the protein-O-mannosyl transferase (POMT) complex in pediatric low-grade gliomas driven by the KIAA1549:BRAF fusion. The research aims to determine high-resolution structures of the POMT...
- The National Cancer Institute, a component of the Department of Health and Human Services National Institutes of Health, awarded Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Inc. $524,110 on June 1, 2026, under the Cancer Cause and Prevention Research program (CFDA 93.393, Assistance Listing Project Grant R01CA314254). The award funds research on one-ended break repair mechanisms in mammalian cells, specifically investigating how cells repair DNA damage at broken replication forks and double-strand...
- The National Institutes of Health National Cancer Institute awarded Massachusetts General Hospital (The General Hospital Corporation) $707,798 on April 1, 2026, under the Cancer Biology Research program (CFDA 93.396) to determine mechanisms of heterogeneous treatment response in glioblastoma using multi-omic and multi-organ approaches. The research identifies transcriptional, genetic, neuronal, and immunological factors influencing glioblastoma formation, progression, and treatment response,...
The National Cancer Institute awarded the Trustees of Boston University $110,228 on December 1, 2026, under the Cancer Research Manpower program (CFDA 93.398) to support research defining the landscape of whole-genome doubling across mammalian tissues. The recipient will use a transgenic cell-cycle reporter mouse model to identify, purify, and manipulate whole-genome doubling (WGD) cells from murine tissues. The research comprises two aims: quantifying how WGD-positive cells accumulate with age across different tissues and defining the predominant mechanisms of WGD in each tissue; and assessing how transcriptional signatures associated with WGD vary across tissues and in response to acute WGD events. This work addresses a gap in understanding tissue-specific regulation of WGD in vivo, motivated by evidence that approximately 40 percent of all solid tumors have undergone at least one WGD event, often early in development. Performance occurs in Roxbury, Massachusetts, with a completion date of May 18, 2030. The Cancer Research Manpower program supports biomedical training opportunities for individuals pursuing careers in basic, clinical, and prevention research relevant to the National Cancer Program.
