The National Cancer Institute (NCI) awarded a $108,512 Project Grant under the Cancer Research Manpower (CFDA 93.398) program to the West Virginia University Research Corporation to investigate the functions of Tie2-expressing macrophages in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and their role in neoadjuvant chemotherapy response. The key objectives are to elucidate the immunosuppressive effects and dysfunctional vessel remodeling functions of these macrophages in PDAC, and correlate these findings to neoadjuvant chemotherapy response. The proposed work utilizes a translational research approach spanning patient samples, genetic mouse models, and advanced imaging and transcriptomic techniques. The findings could identify new therapeutic targets to improve treatment responses in this highly aggressive form of cancer.
