About this award
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), under the Fish and Aquatic Conservation - Aquatic Invasive Species program (CFDA 15.608), awarded $226,000 to the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC) effective July 21, 2025, through July 20, 2026. This award supports the operation and maintenance of the PSMFC's Regional Mark Processing Center (RMPC), a critical infrastructure resource serving fisheries agencies throughout the Pacific Coast. The RMPC processes, manages, and disseminates coded wire tag (CWT) release, recovery, and associated catch and sampling data that inform Pacific salmon stock management across the region.
The funded services include coordination of tagging and marking programs for anadromous salmonids, database maintenance for CWT releases and recoveries, integration of new data fields to support fisheries assessments, and dissemination of reports in electronic and printed formats to requesting agencies and organizations. Through joint support from the USFWS and contributing fisheries agencies, the RMPC implements software, hardware, and personnel enhancements to meet evolving data informational needs while providing essential technical services to tagging and marking programs throughout the Pacific region. These services enable collaborative fisheries management and data exchange among state and federal agencies involved in Pacific salmon conservation and sustainable fisheries practices.
