Description

To break this down, the state of idaho is requesting 221,000 to help compensate producers at fair market value for wolf conflict that results in livestock being killed or injured. The state will use their time to administer the program as well as the expenses that each producer that participates incurs due to wolves being on the landscape as match to meet the grants requirements. Per FWS grant language the state of idaho will compensate producers for only confirmed kills and injuries based on wildlife services wolf depredation investigation reports. The state of idaho is requesting 250,000 to fund preventative measures that will reduce conflict between livestock and wolves before IT occurs. The prevention program will request applications from producers that include prevention measures. The activities that are considered fundable under this program will be: guard dogs, scare devices, temporary pens, sheds or fencing, trail cameras including data plans, supplies food for guard dogs, range riders, increased human presence, livestock carcass removal disposal, band kits for sheepherders, GPS collars to track livestock and any other preventative activity not listed that will help reduce conflict. The state will use their time to administer the program as well as the expenses that each producer that participates incurs due to wolves being on the landscape as match to meet the grants requirements. To remove chances of duplication any match for a producer that participates in both the prevention and compensation program will only be counted as match for the prevention program.
