South Central Illinois Regional Planning received $420,000 in project grant funding from the Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration under the Economic Development Support for Planning Organizations program (CFDA 11.302) to develop and implement a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for Clay, Effingham, Fayette, Jasper, and Marion counties in Illinois from April 1, 2023 through March 31, 2026. As a not-for-profit regional planning organization, South Central Illinois Regional Planning will utilize the funding to convene local public and private sector stakeholders to create an economic roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy through the established CEDS planning process. The EDA Planning program aims to stimulate regional economic development through the creation of CEDS plans. South Central Illinois Regional Planning has previously received over $1.2M in EDA grants to provide regional planning services, including response to economic disasters and partnership planning, in addition to developing the CEDS under this award.
