The Department of Energy Office of Science awarded the University of Notre Dame $475,000 on November 1, 2025, under the Office of Science Financial Assistance Program (CFDA 81.049) to interrogate charge transport in electrolytes containing charge-transfer complexes. The project runs through April 30, 2027, with performance at Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana.
The university passed through funding to The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York as a sub-recipient. Columbia's laboratory, led by PI Marbella, will conduct nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy studies of the structure and ion dynamics in composite polymer electrolytes containing charge-transfer complexes and control polymer electrolytes, employing solid-state NMR, variable temperature relaxometry, and pulsed field gradient NMR methods. Columbia received its sub-award on July 10, 2026.
