About this award
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) received a $2.225 million Project Grant from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) under the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) program (CFDA 20.325), effective May 1, 2025, with a completion date of February 29, 2028. The grant funds project development activities for the State Route 39 (SR-39) Grade Separation Project in Ogden, Utah, which will eliminate an at-grade railroad crossing. UDOT will conduct preliminary engineering and environmental documentation services, including developing project designs to the 30 percent design level and completing final National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation.
The project deliverables will support the future construction of a grade-separated overpass to carry SR-39 (also known as 12th Street) over two railway tracks, thereby improving transportation safety by eliminating potential conflict points between trains and vehicles, reducing vehicle stop-and-wait time, and enhancing travel efficiency for both rail freight and vehicle traffic. The project is supported by local, state, and railroad stakeholders, with planning-level analysis and site feasibility studies already completed prior to this funding award.
