About this award
The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) awarded a $7,438,000 Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) Program grant to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to improve the safety, efficiency, and reliability of passenger and freight traffic along the Pacific Northwest Rail Corridor (PNWRC). The project will (1) construct three catchment walls totaling approximately 3,200 linear feet to reduce the risk of slide debris reaching the tracks, and (2) enhance the alert system that notifies dispatchers and train crews of possible track intrusions. This work aims to avoid or minimize service interruptions caused by slope failures (landslides) between mileposts 24.68 and 25.52 on the PNWRC. Once completed, the project will improve PNWRC reliability, reduce maintenance costs, and enhance safety for passenger and freight rail service.
