About this award

This $970,000 Project Grant award from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) under the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance High Priority Activities Grants and Cooperative Agreements program (CFDA 20.237) supports the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LaDOTD) in delivering three key projects:

  1. Ensuring ongoing operation and maintenance of the Commercial Vehicle Information Exchange Window (CVIEW) system to facilitate efficient, data-driven screening of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) and their drivers at roadside and administrative locations. This includes addressing data quality issues, updating interfaces, and maintaining legacy system integrations.

  2. Providing support for the continued operation and enhancement of Louisiana's International Registration Plan (IRP) system, which handles vehicle registration and credentialing for interstate CMV operations. Objectives include ensuring robust system performance and accommodating changes to dependent systems like SAFER.

  3. Maintaining and upgrading the state's Oversize/Overweight (OS/OW) permitting system to enable efficient and reliable processing of permits for oversized/overweight CMV movements. This includes regular software/hardware updates, GIS database enhancements, and interface monitoring.

These projects, spanning the period from September 2024 to September 2028, aim to enhance the safety, efficiency, and compliance of Louisiana's commercial transportation operations through advanced technologies and data-driven processes.
