About this award

The U.S. Forest Service awarded $200,000 to Washington Mass Timber Accelerator under the Wood Utilization Assistance program (CFDA 10.674) on September 24, 2025, with completion targeted for August 31, 2027. This Project Grant supports activities designed to expand mass timber markets and wood products infrastructure in Washington State. The award funds project deliverables that will accelerate wood manufacturing capacity and market development for mass timber construction, which represents a key focus area within the Wood Innovations Grant Program aimed at supporting active forest management and wildfire fuel reduction on National Forest System lands.

The Wood Utilization Assistance program provides technical and financial assistance to strengthen domestic forest products markets through infrastructure development, feasibility studies, and engineering work. Eligible funding activities include design and engineering services, equipment installation, market development studies, and workforce training initiatives. By supporting mass timber acceleration efforts, this award contributes to the broader program objective of stimulating rural economies, creating and retaining jobs, and utilizing low-value forest resources to support sustainable forest management practices across the United States.
