Description

The goal is to identify viable developments and locations that can productively utilize roundwood and mill residues to create a stable, long-term demand for by-products from forest restoration while also attracting private investment and restoring rural employment opportunities. The primary study location is the former in seeley lake, missoula county, montana. A mill closed in 2024 along with another mill that took byproducts from area mills. This resulted in a catastrophic loss to wood processing infrastructure in western montana that is essential to supporting rural economies, wildfire risk reduction, and forest management.
