The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $427,629 Project Grant to the University of Florida under the Engineering (CFDA 47.041) program. The three-year REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) Site titled "Assured Autonomy and Networking" will engage eight undergraduate students in scientific research on topics related to the safe and reliable operation of AI-controlled robots, vehicles, and other physical systems. Participants will gain hands-on experience with autonomous vehicles, robots, networks, and sensors, working on cross-disciplinary projects that leverage techniques from areas such as autonomy/control, AI/machine learning, formal methods, wireless communications, and cybersecurity. The program aims to educate a new workforce with the technical knowledge and capabilities to address challenges affecting the communication channels and networked operation of autonomous systems. Students will disseminate their research through presentations and publications, and interact with industry representatives, preparing them for future graduate studies and STEM career pathways.
