The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a three-year, $465,000 Project Grant under the Engineering program (CFDA 47.041) to the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) to support an REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) site titled "Exploring Intelligent Technologies Shaping Future Smart Cities."
This REU site will engage 10 undergraduate students each summer in unique research experiences focused on cutting-edge technologies and the future of smart cities. Students will investigate advancements in four key areas: mobility, management of solar energy, infrastructure, and operations/system security. Participants will work closely with faculty mentors, conduct hands-on research in state-of-the-art labs, attend professional development workshops, and take field trips to local companies. The goal is to develop a new generation of researchers capable of addressing technological, environmental, and social challenges in transitioning to smart and sustainable urban living.
