LEAP FOR NURSES WILL HELP INDIVIDUALS FROM RURAL PARISHES PREPARED AS AN LPN ADVANCE TO THE LEVEL OF RN, HELP RNS PREPARED AT THE ASSOCIATE DEGREE IN NURSING (ADN) AND OR DIPLOMA LEVEL ADVANCE TO THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING (BSN) LEVEL OF EDUCATION, AND HELP BSN PREPARED NURSES BECOME NURSE EDUCATORS AND ADVANCE TO THE MASTER OF SCIENCE IN NURSING (MSN) DEGREE LEVEL. LEAP FOR NURSES WILL WORK TO DIVERSIFY THE FUTURE NURSING WORKFORCE IN THE STATE BY GIVING PRIORITY IN SUPPORTING STUDENTS FROM HISTORICALLY-MARGINALIZED GROUPS. THERE IS A GROWING SHORTAGE OF NURSES IN LOUISIANA, INCLUDING MASTERS-PREPARED NURSES WITH TRAINING IN NURSING EDUCATION TO TEACH THE FUTURE NURSING WORKFORCE. A REPRESENTATIVE WITH GEAUX JOBS REPORTED THAT IN LOUISIANA WORKFORCE REGION 2, WHICH ALIGNS WITH THE TEN RURAL PARISHES SERVED BY THIS PROJECT, THERE WILL BE AN ESTIMATED SHORTAGE OF 4,000 RNS OVER THE NEXT 7-YEARS. LEAP FOR NURSES WILL SUPPORT PARTICIPANTS WITH INCREASED EDUCATION AND SKILLS TO ATTAIN GOOD JOBS AND EARN AN INCREASE IN WAGES. TO HELP INCREASE THE NUMBER OF RNS IN THE REGION, NEWLY GRADUATED AND OR INCUMBENT LPNS WILL BE SUPPORTED IN ENROLLING IN AN RN EDUCATION PROGRAM. LEAP FOR NURSES WILL ADDRESS EQUITY AND DIVERSITY BY SUPPORTING NURSES FROM HISTORICALLY-MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES TO ADVANCE TO THE NEXT LEVEL IN THEIR NURSING CAREER. THE PARTNERS IN LEAP FOR NURSES WILL COLLABORATE WITH KEY COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS TO DEVELOP A STRATEGIC PLAN FOR SUPPORTING THE FUTURE GROWTH AND EMPLOYMENT NEEDS OF THE HEALTHCARE INDUSTRY IN THE TEN RURAL PARISHES SERVED BY THE PROJECT. THE FOLLOWING GOALS WILL BE ACHIEVED OVER THE 3-YEAR GRANT PERIOD. 1.LEAP FOR NURSES WILL ASSIST LPNS AND RNS IN INCREASING SKILLS, ATTAINING GOOD JOBS AND INCREASING WAGES. 2.LEAP FOR NURSES WILL PROVIDE ACCESS TO WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS FOR VETERANS AND INDIVIDUALS FROM HISTORICALLY MARGINALIZED AND UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES.3.LEAP FOR NURSES WILL PROMOTE ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION THROUGH INCREASED EMPLOYMENT AND RETENTION IN RN POSITIONS WITHIN THE CARE ECONOMY OF THE REGION SERVED.
