This $275,000 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Engineering Directorate (CFDA 47.041) will fund the development of a holistic health monitoring system for construction workers at The Ohio State University from October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2026. The University will design a flexible, wearable sensor to continuously and noninvasively measure workers' bioelectric signals and electrochemical responses at job sites. Researchers will also develop machine learning algorithms to objectively assess workers' health conditions in real time based on physiological, contextual, and environmental data. Finally, the project will generate a digital twin model of construction sites through collective health analyses and provide automated, personalized health and safety feedback to workers and mitigation strategies. This collaborative research aims to improve construction workforce health and safety by integrating sensor technology, artificial intelligence, and privacy-aware data visualization to augment situational awareness for safer task decisions.
