About this award

Written by GovTribe AI ·

The Center For Alternative Building Studies (CABS) was awarded a $203,954 Project Grant from the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service R3-Southwestern Region under the Wood Utilization Assistance federal grant program (CFDA #10.674). The grant will support CABS' project "USING FOREST BIOMASS TO MAKE CONSTRUCTION BLOCKS - BETRBLOK (BETTER BLOCK)" from June 2021 through August 2023. The project aims to develop new and emerging wood utilization technologies by researching the use of forest biomass to manufacture construction blocks, with the goal of effectively managing forests and extending the most efficient and beneficial use of wood fiber resources. The two-year grant will allow CABS to test production methods for building materials made from underutilized forest biomass that could help reduce wildfire risks and generate rural economic opportunities.
