Description

One of the key elements of farm sustainability is an efficient operation that is tied to energy efficiency. While energy costs represent a significant percentage of total farm expenses, the majority of the farms still rely on fossil fuels and electricity, with its cost constantly rising over the last decade. By utilizing on-farm renewable energy sources, farms can significantly improve energy efficiency, dramatically reduce operational expenses and reliance on fossil fuels, and protect from rising energy rates in the future, positively influencing farm profitability. In addition to economic factors, acceptance of renewable energy technologies helps reduce the farms' carbon footprint and thus reach environmental stewardship. The scalable concentrated solar-thermal system that we developed, coupled with thermal energy storage (TES) to secure continuous operation, is a high-efficient zero-emission solution that can fulfill up to 100% of the thermal energy needs of the small and mid-size farms providing free, renewable, and clean thermal energy for various agricultural applications. Self-sufficient and autonomous solar-thermal technology by suncatch is a great solution to diminish the vulnerability in agriculture to the dependence on fossil-fuel energy use and address the lack of efficiency, intensify productivity and profitability while enhancing sustainability and energy independence of the various agricultural sectors. By adopting our technology with a short payback period, the agricultural industry can benefit from utilizing on-farm renewable energy sources, taking advantage of long-term energy savings, significantly reduce reliance on fossil fuels and the grid while lowering operating costs, maximizing energy efficiency, and cutting the total amount of farm's GHG emissions that is consistent with the goals set by the federal government and USDA.
