Description
Miami-dade county (MDC) is submitting an application on behalf of the miami-dade police department and thriving mind/south florida behavioral health network for connect and protect: law enforcement behavioral health response program. MDC, with 2.8 million residents and 14.5 million annual visitors, the 7TH most populous U.S. County, is home to one of the largest percentages of people with serious mental illness of any U.S. Urban community. A previous recipient of a FY17 jmhcp planning grant (award number 2017-MO-BX-0053) and FY19 jmhcp grant (award number 2019-MO-BX-0015), MDC developed strategies and recommendations for systematic advances in the field through the work invested in creating the grant strategic and implementation plans. The next step for this collaborative is to expand and model the national plan for crisis response transformation, through the partnership of law enforcement and behavioral health, improving responses to and outcomes for individuals with mental health disorders or CO-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. The amount of federal funding requested is $550,000.00 for the hiring of necessary personnel and the collaborative will provide a local, in-kind salary match over the 36-month project period. Mdcs connect and protect program is well-timed and well-prepared to revolutionize care for this vulnerable population.
