Description

Louis river area of concern (slraoc) and coordinate implementation of the lake superior lakewide action and management plan (lamp). Activities: some of the activities will include support for projects concerning remedial assessment, excessive loading of nutrients, beach closures, loss of fish and wildlife habitat, and degraded fish and wildlife populations. Outcomes: this restoration work is integral to the delisting of the slraoc. In addition, MPCA and mdnr will lead the implementation of a combined environmental justice and climate resilience initiative to protect culturally significant species and enhance the climate resiliency of wetlands. Subrecipient: through a memorandum of understanding between MPCA and mdnr, both agencies work together in implementing the slraoc remedial action plan (RAP). The RAP describes the roles and responsibilities regarding joint implementation of the RAP. Although MPCA is the lead agency assigned to coordinate with the environmental protection agency (EPA) regarding RAP implementation, BUI removal, and delisting of the slraoc, MPCA and mdnr have equal standing as executive branch agencies in minnesota. To implement the RAP, MPCA also enters into a contract with its designated citizens action committee, the ST. Louis river alliance (slra), to help sustain public awareness of slraoc activities and progress and generate support for BUI removals and, eventually, delisting.
