The County of Brown, Wisconsin will receive $598,955 from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative federal grant program (CFDA #66.469) to implement agricultural sediment and phosphorus removal structures. Specifically, the county will install four agricultural sediment basins with phosphorus removal filters and three tile line phosphorus removal systems. These structures are expected to capture 800 tons of total suspended solids and 1,260 pounds of particulate and soluble phosphorus annually over a 15-year period. The Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance and The Nature Conservancy will create outreach materials as subrecipients to generate one fact sheet, one newsletter article, and three online presences about the funded project. Completion is slated for September 2025 to help improve water quality in the Lower Fox/Green Bay watershed through reduced nutrient and sediment runoff from large dairy farms.
