The County of Outagamie will receive $599,643 from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (CFDA 66.469) project grant program to install five acres of Agricultural Runoff Treatment Systems enhanced with Phosphorus Removal Devices in the Plum Creek Watershed. These innovative best management practices will mitigate dissolved phosphorus and reduce total suspended solids and total phosphorus from both surface and subsurface cropland runoff. By detaining and filtering runoff from at least 100 acres, the project is expected to help reduce undesirable algae growth and reduce peak flows downstream. No subawards are included in the assistance agreement. Communities and landowners in the watershed are anticipated to benefit from improved water quality due to reduced nutrient and sediment runoff once installation is complete by May 2025.
