The western pacific tropical research center (wptrc) is the research branch of college of natural and applied sciences and manages research projects funded by hatch, multistate hatch, and mcintire stennis programs. This eoort involves research faculty, associates, and assistants as well as agriculture technicians, students, and other support personnel. All projects relate to agriculture in its broadest sense. Interdisciplinary research is carried out in three experiment stations, a hatchery, nine laboratories, and other facilities. Researchers collaborate with UOG cooperative extension and outreach to ensure the research enterprise is informed by input from farmers and other stakeholders in the community. These projects address critical areas for the region, including comm unity and youth development, family and consumer science, and food safety and security at local and global scales, to name a few. Consequently, research-based information is conveyed using a variety of means to farmers, government agencies, community groups and businesses in guam and the region. Outputs from the projects include publications in peer-reviewed journals, technical reports, information in websites and other outlets, and community outreach events. Outcomes are improved security and sustainability of agriculture production and natural resource management, and greater economic development and community well-being.
