About this award
The Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service awarded the State of Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) a formula grant totaling $1,350,623 under the Wildlife Restoration and Basic Hunter Education and Safety program (CFDA 15.611), effective July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027. This funding supports implementation of the Oregon Wolf Conservation and Management Plan, which was updated in 2019 to address gray wolf (Canis lupus) population management and distribution in Eastern and Western Oregon following wolf dispersal from the Northern Rocky Mountain gray wolf recovery area. Although the gray wolf is no longer listed as endangered under Oregon state law, it remains federally endangered, necessitating coordinated management efforts.
Under this award, ODFW will deliver population monitoring, research, depredation response, public outreach, and education initiatives to enhance wolf conservation and support statewide wildlife management objectives. The formula grant mechanism, authorized under the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act of 1937, distributes funding to eligible state fish and wildlife agencies based on established allocation methodologies. ODFW maintains cost records separately for this grant and will retain supporting documentation for three years following submission of required federal financial reports, consistent with program regulations outlined in 50 CFR 80.
