About this award
The Vermont Department of Fish & Wildlife received a $1,423,334 Formula Grant from the U.S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service Region 5 under the Wildlife Restoration and Basic Hunter Education and Safety program (CFDA 15.611) for the period July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. The award funds a Technical Assistance Project designed to protect and conserve Vermont's fish and wildlife resources through strategic habitat protection and management on both public and private lands.
The project delivers comprehensive technical assistance across multiple conservation functions, including support for local, state, and federal regulatory and environmental review processes; guidance to planning commissions on conservation and land use planning; coordination with federal agencies including the U.S. Forest Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service; incorporation of habitat conservation into state forest stewardship planning; statewide habitat mapping; dissemination of conservation information; and direct assistance to private landowners and conservation groups on land and habitat stewardship. These services support the overarching goal of integrating fish and wildlife habitat conservation objectives into Vermont's land use and planning processes while promoting sustainable resource management.
