About this award
The U.S. Department of the Interior's Fish and Wildlife Service awarded $1,241,189 to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) under the Wildlife Restoration and Basic Hunter Education and Safety program (CFDA 15.611) for the period July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. This Formula Grant supports the CDFW's Northern Region Wildlife Management Program, which encompasses nine northernmost counties in California and is responsible for assessing wildlife population and habitat conditions, managing and conserving game birds and game mammals, and providing technical assistance and public information regarding game species.
The grant funds support wildlife restoration and management projects implemented by 12 program staff within the Northern Region that complement but do not duplicate efforts supported by other CDFW regions, headquarters programs, or other state and federal assistance under the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act. The funded projects implement CDFW's trustee responsibilities for state wildlife resources and require extensive coordination with other agencies, headquarters programs, regional staff, and the public. Activities funded through this award advance the federal program's core mission of conserving wild birds and mammals and their habitats through restoration, management, and research initiatives.
