About this award

This $750,000 Formula Grant award from the U.S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service's 15.611 Wildlife Restoration and Basic Hunter Education program will fund major renovations to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) Division of Fish and Wildlife building. The building, originally constructed in 1987 primarily with Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration funds, houses critical operational spaces for the agency's wildlife, GIS, fisheries, and conservation coordination programs. However, the facility has fallen into disrepair after sustaining major damages from typhoons in 2015 and 2018. This grant will enable the CNMI Department of Lands and Natural Resources to replace the building's exterior walls, repair the roof, upgrade electrical and plumbing systems, and restore the air conditioning, ensuring safe and secure conditions for the agency's staff and program assets. The award has a performance period from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2026.

Description

The cnmi division of fish and wildlife building, originally constructed in 1987 primarily with wildlife and sport fish restoration (wsfr) funds, houses operational spaces for the wildlife section, GIS-spatial data management section, the fishery data collection analysis program, and the OCI (wsfr) coordination section. The building has fallen into disrepair, particularly since sustaining major damages in major typhoons in 2015 (typhoon soudelor) and 2018 (typhoon yutu). Major renovations are now needed to ensure sound, safe, and secure conditions for occupants and program assets housed within, including the replacement of the exterior walls and repairs to theroof, interior partitions, electrical wiring and plumbing, and air conditioning system.
