Description

There is a need to evaluate the effects of wildfire on sage-grouse ecology for a minimum of 10 years to makeeffective and impactful management and restoration decisions in the future given the unprecedented rate and scaleof wildfires across the great basin, coupled with the slow recovery of sagebrush ecosystems, and that sage-grouseare considered a longer-living galliform, this project will target high density sage-grouse populations within the perimeter of the holloway fire, but itis expected that some of these birds may also use portions of the long draw fire. The purpose of this grant is to (1) complete the collection biological data on sage-grouse for population models,(2) determine the effects of legal harvest, (3) determine source-sink habitats for nesting and brood-rearing, and(4) improve our understanding of sage-grouse response to restoration and recovery options.
