Description
These properties encompass a more than 255,000 acres statewide and are owned or cooperatively managed by the new mexico state game commission (see appendix a: map of statewide wildlife management areas (wmas) and listings of wmas). These properties provide a wide range of wildlife habitats, hunting opportunities, and wildlife-associated recreation. If these properties are not properly maintained and operated, wildlife habitat and use of these properties would be reduced. Thiswould result in poor hunting satisfaction and public satisfaction would drastically decrease leading to loss of income to state wildlife agencies. Without this income, agencies would be unable to contribute to the conservation of habitats for wildlife thereby negatively impacting wildlife populations for future generations.improvement, maintenance, and operation activities included in this grant are considered routine or RE-occurring activities. The activities listed in this grant are improvement, maintenance, and operation activities, and are evaluated in the required compliance documents: programmatic ESA section 7 biological evaluation (appendix c), nepa categorical exclusion, and programmatic agreement for nhpa section 106 (appendix d), and the NM prehistoric and historic sites preservation act 18-8 nmsa 1978. If a project is outside the scope of the included compliance, additional compliance documentation will be provided for review andapproval or the project will be conducted under a separate grant and compliance.
