About this award
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game will receive $295,975 through June 2030 under a Formula Grant from the U.S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service Region 7. The grant funding will support a project under the Wildlife Restoration and Basic Hunter Education and Safety federal grant program (CFDA 15.611).
Through this project, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game will characterize the context and quantify participation in bird and egg harvest across rural Alaska. The Department will compile harvest data to illustrate the statewide subsistence harvest of birds and eggs. It will also estimate the economic value of this harvest for rural Alaska communities. The results will make key information on the management of traditional bird harvest easily accessible to all stakeholders. The project aims to restore, conserve, manage and enhance wild birds and their habitat in Alaska, in line with the broader goals of the Pittman-Robertson program.
