This $18,914,000 Formula Grant award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Small and Underserved Communities Emerging Contaminants Grant Program (CFDA 66.442) will enable the State of Maryland to address emerging contaminants, including per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), in the drinking water supply for the town of Hampstead, Maryland. The grant will fund the design and construction of three new water treatment facilities and modifications to an existing fourth facility to use dilution and granular activated carbon (GAC) treatment to reduce PFAS levels below the EPA health advisory. This project will benefit the 6,241 residents of Hampstead by providing safe, PFAS-free drinking water. The award period is from October 1, 2023 through June 30, 2026.
