This $18,914,000 Formula Grant award from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Small and Underserved Communities Emerging Contaminants Grant Program (CFDA 66.442) provides funding to the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission (ANRC) to address emerging contaminants in drinking water, particularly per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), for small and disadvantaged communities in Arkansas. The grant will support a range of activities, including research and testing, planning and design, treatment of emerging contaminants, source water protection, water system restructuring, household access to drinking water services, technical assistance, outreach and education, and workforce development. ANRC will implement these projects and also provide funding to municipalities through sub-awards to carry out the necessary work. The goal is to help disadvantaged communities comply with the Safe Drinking Water Act and mitigate public health risks from emerging contaminants. The performance period for this grant is from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2028.
