About this award

The National Park Service (NPS) awarded American Conservation Experience a cooperative agreement valued at $369,034.98 under the Youth and Veteran Organizations Conservation Activities program (CFDA 15.931) effective September 5, 2025, through September 30, 2026. Under this agreement, American Conservation Experience will recruit and place nine local youth interns at four historic sites in California—John Muir National Historic Site, Eugene O'Neill National Historic Site, Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historic Park, and Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial—to deliver conservation, education, and volunteer service activities.

The interns will provide direct support to park operations and public engagement by staffing visitor centers, conducting educational programs, performing landscape maintenance, implementing wildland fire abatement through mowing, and treating invasive weeds. The program is designed to yield dual benefits: enhanced park operations and increased community engagement at the four historic sites, while simultaneously providing youth participants with valuable career skills and professional development in natural and cultural resource conservation and management. The deliverables directly support the NPS mission of resource preservation while creating meaningful workforce development and educational opportunities for young adults in local communities.
