About this award

Federal Cooperative Agreement Summary

The National Park Service (NPS) awarded The Great Basin Institute, operating through its Nevada Conservation Corps division, a cooperative agreement valued at $180,003.38 under the Youth and Veteran Organizations Conservation Activities program (CFDA 15.931). The award, issued on August 6, 2025, supports employment of four interns at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in Page, Arizona, through September 15, 2026. The interns deliver interpretive and educational programming to K-12 students and the general public while supporting natural and cultural resource conservation activities. Core services include mentoring local youth through the Glen Canyon Summer Youth Program—developed in partnership with the Leechee Chapter House—and conducting hands-on field activities including boating, water sampling, hiking, and graffiti removal on NPS lands.

The cooperative agreement advances the NPS objective of building conservation workforce capacity among young adults while simultaneously addressing resource management priorities on federal lands. Through this funding, interns gain professional skills and experience in public land management disciplines while transferring that knowledge to local youth and visitors. The program benefits non-profit organizations, academic institutions, government agencies, and the general public through development and execution of conservation education projects and youth career development activities aligned with natural and cultural resource stewardship.
