About this award

This Cooperative Agreement awarded by the National Park Service (NPS) under the Natural Resource Stewardship program (CFDA 15.944) provides $248,800.00 to the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) to replace and maintain five water quality monitoring buoys on Lakes Mead and Mohave. The buoys will collect real-time meteorological and hydrological data, which will be transmitted to a publicly available database. This data will be used by partners to support water quality monitoring, modeling, and recreational forecasting efforts in the Colorado River Basin. The award period runs from July 15, 2024 to April 30, 2029, with SNWA providing the necessary personnel, equipment, and supplies to carry out this environmental stewardship project. The data gathered through this effort will help fill current information gaps and benefit the general public.

Description

The natural resource stewardship program is the principle means through which the national park service (NPS) evaluates and improves the health of watersheds, landscapes, and marine and coastal resources, sustains biological communities on the lands and waters in parks, and actively endeavors to improve the resiliency of these natural resources and adapt them to the effects of climate change. To carry out and further this stewardship responsibility, NPS implements programs that encompass a broad range of research, operational, and educational activities by utilizing park personnel and contractor support or cooperative agreements. The recipient will provide personnel, equipment, and supplies needed to replace and continually maintain five buoys on lakes mead and mohave to provide real-time meteorological and hydrological data. Data from the buoys will be transmitted to and stored within a publicly available database maintained by the recipient. The data will be used by partners to fill current data gaps and provide for water quality monitoring, water quality modeling, wave modeling, and recreational forecasting. Beneficiaries include the general public.
