About this award

Through this award, interns from Conservation Legacy's Southwest Conservation Corps program will provide critical trail maintenance services, including removing invasive vegetation, repairing trail surfaces, and replacing signage. This work will improve public access and safety on the multi-use trail, which is heavily utilized by visitors to the historic battlefield. Description
Rehabilitate and maintain red trail in chickamauga battlefield - interns will work in the chickamauga battlefield to provide much needed trail maintenance to several sections of the red trail, which is utilized by thousands of visitors a year as a multi-use trail for hiking and horseback riding, as well as to access many of the historic monuments, markers, plaques, and cannon positions located in the heart of the battlefield. Interns will gain hands-on, real-world experience in removing invasive vegetation and brush within trail corridors, repairing trail surfaces to prevent erosion and damaged boards on foot bridges and replacing trail markers and signage where needed. This rehabilitation work will provide safer trails for the visiting public by allowing them to better navigate the parks trail system to natural and cultural resources without encountering hazards.
