About this award

This $184,447 cooperative agreement awarded by the National Park Service will support a multi-year project to conduct heritage documentation and create digital twins at Cumberland Island National Seashore in Georgia. Using terrestrial laser scanning, structured light scanning, and other advanced imaging and virtualization technologies, the University of South Florida will spatially document extant structures and remains. This includes completing a 3D inventory with GIS web applications, virtual collections and tours, and 3D models. The project aims to establish a historic building information management approach to monitor climate change impacts and transformation processes. It will also synthesize existing GIS and information into a geospatial database for efficient data management and visualization tool development. Funded under the Cooperative Research and Training Programs – Resources of the National Park System program (CFDA 15.945), the project supports the program's goals of facilitating multi-disciplinary science and integrated information through cooperative study units.
