Description

Tools, resources and best practices for approaching recovery processes that respond to local impacts are needed, yet there has been less systematic research into the ways that populations approach, prioritize or access recovery resources in response to context specific impacts from wildfire events. Efforts to compile, synthesize, and understand patterns in wildfire recovery processes across social ecological conditions are necessary to determine whether and how current recovery guidance or assistance will advance diverse communitiesneed to better coexist with wildfire. Lessons aggregated across conditions, and augmented by case studies of context specific wildfire recovery processes, also have the capacity to identify underserved populations or evaluate best practices for addressing a wide range of recovery needs through improved monitoring. This proposal addresses these critical needs, as identified through our recent research, to better understand wildfire impacts, recovery needs, and uses of recovery assistance across diverse social ecological conditions.objectives we will help compile, analyze and synthesize information surrounding wildfire recovery assistance programs to improve the efficiency of recovery planning or mobilization. We also will draw generalizable lessons, patterns and in depth best practices surrounding recovery through analysis of existing efforts at progressively nested scales (e.g., regionally, statewide, across communities). Our application of both social and ecological approaches will address the following objectives OBJ. 1 assemble an open access database of available recovery assistance programs for wildfire recoveryobj. 2 determine availability and use of existing assistance programs across socially and ecologically diverse wildfire eventsobj. 3 explore in depth lessonssurrounding recovery processes across socially diverse populations.
