Description
- Activities
- Operate and maintain the network of sensor stations and relay sites distributed across washington andoregon. Replace aging seismic equipment as needed during the 5-year cooperative agreement. Optimize data routes and design and implement redundant data paths to ensure continuous and securedata flow to pnsns processing center in seattle. Continuous monitoring of station health, data quality, and data flow. Maintenance of the software and IT infrastructure at the data collection center in eugene, or. Maintenance of the software and IT infrastructure at the data collection and regional processing center inseattle, WA, where events are detected and anss products are generated. Maintain export servers for waveform and metadata to be permanently archived by NSF seismologicalfacility for advancing geosciences data services. Immediately review the phase arrivals, location, and magnitude for every event with an automaticmagnitude of 2.95 or greater. A review of smaller earthquakes is typically done during daytime hours andcompleted within 24 hours. Produce detailed documentation of the data processing, algorithms, and configuration choices that affectlocation and magnitude accuracy so that users of our catalog are better informed. Document the changing capability of the network over time due to changes in station distribution, instrumentation, location-, and magnitude determination methods.deliverables and expected outcomes timely and accurate earthquake information products after an earthquake in or near or or WA. Reliable operations and 24 7 continuous system functionality (failure of minor network infrastructurecomponents should not prohibit our ability to detect and characterize earthquakes and distribute theinformation to our anss partners). Increased awareness and use of the anss earthquake information products. An improved catalog of locations and magnitudes of earthquakes and other seismic events, includingmanually picked arrival times of first-arriving p- and s-phases.intended beneficiary(IES): the U.S. Geological survey, inhabitants of or and WA, emergency management state agencies, private and public entities wishing to determine their risk to earthquake hazards, researchers who wish to study the tectonic setting, crustal structure, earthquake hazard, and episodictremor and slow-slip in the pacific northwest region.
