Description
- Activities
- The nevada seismological laboratory will continue operations and maintenance of 93 active seismic stations and will continue to meet the performance standards to deliver timely earthquake locations, data products and raw waveform data. Other activities to be performed include building and maintaining an equipment and station inventory in the seismic station information system, seismic data management, archiving and distribution, and support and communication with partner seismic networks in the region. Nevada seismological laboratory will leverage anss funds along with funds from other sources (bureau of land management, nevada national security site, and individual private stakeholders) to continue increasing the responsiveness and resilience of the seismic network. In addition, we will coordinate with state, university, and regional partners (e.g., statewide california earthquake center) to continue and enhance seismic hazard communication across the coverage area.deliverables and expected outcomes: deliverables include a timely generated earthquake catalog for the nevada seismological laboratory s authoritative region, real time availability of seismic data, improved state of health monitoring, public awareness efforts, and the contribution of the nevada seismological laboratories metadata to the station information system.
- Intended beneficiaries
- The primary beneficiaries of this award include the residents of nevada and eastern california as real time seismic monitoring is beneficial for coordinating public communication and response. Additional beneficiaries include scientists and residents of other partner networks in the region who access and utilize NSL data for earthquakes near border regions. Furthermore, scientists all over the world can take advantage of the dense station coverage and high-quality seismic data produced by our network for a wide variety of scientific research topics including earthquake statistics and mechanisms, data processing, tomography, and tectonics.
