Description
- Activities
- This project combines remote-sensing tools with local and indigenous knowledge to provide the klamath tribes with spatially explicit inventories of areas likely to support first foods as the climate continues to warm. The recipient will use a recently developed, open-source wetland intrinsic potential (WIP) tool to map potential meadow wetland habitat across diverse habitat types and ownerships using high resolution remote-sensing data. With appropriate training data and adjustment of model thresholds, this tool identifies potential meadow wetland habitat missing from current classifications. The climate vulnerability assessment incorporates landsat meadow wetland time series reconstruction to evaluate site-specific resistance to climate warming. The recipients goal is the CO-production of actionable science that incorporates multiple sources of information and collaborative evaluation of model output. Facilitated participatory workshops will enhance both the process and end results. 1.) map of potential meadow and wetland habitat using the WIP tool for the klamath basin.2.) training on the use of tools and workflow components as well as shared learning andco-development with the klamath tribes.deliverables and expected outcomes: this project provides an updatable framework anddecision support tools to help guide management and conservation of meadow wetland and first foods habitat in a changing climate. Deliverables include maps of potential meadow wetland habitat and climate vulnerability. Training on the use of tools and workflow components and documentation of the workflow, including tool components, will support continued updating and model improvement by the klamath tribes.intended beneficiary(IES): state and federal agencies, other regional partners, klamath tribal members and staff, and other tribes with similar goalssubrecipient activities: the university of washington has the following subaward partner who will contribute to the accomplishment of project goals and objectives: applegate forestry.
