Description
- Activities
- Researchers will organize deliberative stakeholder networks and CO-design field experiments with the aim of collaboratively (1) evaluating the feasibility of CO-designed wastewater gardens as safe and economical ways to adapt agroecosystems to extreme climate threats, particularly drought and (2) developing an ecapcia.deliverables and expected outcomes: the recipient will collaboratively develop actionable plans, evaluations of stakeholder engagement in that process, environmental science evaluations of wastewater garden (WWG) function, and ecological science evaluations of WWG effects on plants and pollinators. The actionable plans will include the living document ecapcia and guidebooks for tribes considering WWG for drought adaptation. The effects of making climate change relatable when starting climate action plans will broadly interest community organizers and scholars of directed deliberations. The recipient will publish findings as open-access articles in journals such as ecology and society. These natural science investigations will likewise be of interest to community planners and conservation biologists, therefore the recipient will target open-access publications in journals related to environmental health and sustainability such as frontiers in ecology and the environment and global change biology.intended beneficiary(IES): this proposal supports tribal nations adaptation of agroecosystems through an adaptive feedback approach that alternates between (a) scientifically testing possible solutions to the most pressing threats and (b) considerations of how their agroecosystems will have to adapt to new climate extremes.
