Description

Activities
This project will explore how to extend customized reporting to wildfire managers and tribal resource managers. IT is anticipated that each of these types of managers will have unique information needs and reporting requirements beyond what has been learned in working with land managers previously. The recipient will engage with potential partners in each of these groups to learn what types of weather and climate information they use, how custom reports might be beneficial, and work with them to develop prototype reports and study and document this climate services development process.deliverables and expected outcomes: -work with wildfire managers in two different management units in the southwest U.S. (e.g. national forest, national park or other land management unit) to develop customized weather climate report. These two different reports will allow for comparison of information.-work with natural resource managers at two different tribes in the southwest to explore how customized reporting might help support management activities across multiple natural resource sectors from livestock management to hydrology. Reporting may include frequent updates of recent conditions and or historical climate and climate projection summaries for tribal lands to support planning and adaptation activities. Custom reports will be provided to each tribal partner and will provide insight on common versus specific needs. -the assessment of reporting needs and development of custom reports will guide the creation of a modular, open-source code that fetches, summarizes and visualizes different types of weather and climate data which will support the development of code base that can be used to develop reports for any land management unit across any agency.-evaluate and document the process of developing the climate reports from engagement to delivery to provide insight into the impact and utility of this climate services development approach. A report and peer reviewed manuscript will detail the report development process and recommendations for best practices.intended beneficiary(IES): land managers working across different management units in the southwest U.S. As well climate service practitioners.
