Description
- Activities
- The recipient will synthesize anrpo and pepp datasets to identify the effects of management interventions and climate variability on reintroduced rare plant populations. Using different modeling approaches, this project will identify: direct and indirect drivers of reintroduction success long-term persistence of 10 focal species under climate change scenarios and species traits that predict reintroduction success or failure. These results will be shared and cross-validated with rare plant experts across the state, in a series of workshops on four islands. In the workshops the recipient also will combine model results with future climate suitability maps to identify: the GAP between current and recommended reintroduction strategies rare plant taxa unlikely to be effectively conserved in situ and opportunities to provide safe habitats under climate change.deliverables and expected outcomes: science products generated will include structural equation models that identify direct and indirect drivers of reintroduction success for groups of species with similar life history traits and recommendations for best management practices matrix models for 10 focal species and associated projected responses to climate change scenarios and recommendations for best practices and climatic conditions appropriate for future reintroduction of those species summary of traits that predict reintroduction success in based on glmms and cross-validated with on-the ground observations and identification of management-driven future research priorities. These will be described in three manuscripts for publication. Intended beneficiary(IES): rare plant managers, and conservation and restoration organizations across the state of hawaii university of hawaii at mnoa students hawaiian forests scientific research community the general public.
