The purpose of the proposed project is to conduct a secretive marsh bird survey with the primary focus being to determine presence of the federally threatened eastern black rail on fort eustis and langley. In addition to the black rail we will actively survey other secretive marsh birds such as the clapper rail king rail virginia rail and american bittern.limited survey efforts have previously been conducted by both private individuals and universities since the eastern black rail was listed in 2020. None of these efforts were adequate in terms of methodology and effort to definitively determine presence of the eastern black rail.
