Description
The crew and thermal systems division at JSC is developing and integrating technology for the office of the chief technologist(OCT) and the advanced exploration systems extravehicular activity(EVA) suit/portable life support system project(plss).engineering development, technician support, code development, and operational concept development for plss 2.0 hardware is needed for completing a fully integrated system within FY13. Swme fluid loop management- team is utilizing the spacesuit water membrane evaporator as the heat rejection technology for the AES EVA plss. In order to ensure adequate performance of the swme, IT will require a biocide delivery system, ION exchange bed and organic removal bed. The remediation beds contain proprietary hardware. The contractor shall provide guidance for integration of the OPA delivery system into the thermal loop test bed. Also water chemistry and biocide discussion. Space suit technician support- this support is crucial to the on-time delivery of the ortho-phthalaldehyde (OPA) delivery system into the thermal loop test bed. Contractor shall provide swme (spacesuit water membrane evaporator) testing support; primary oxygen regulator/secondary oxygen regulator testing support; plss 2.0 cable calibration; general maintenance and calibration engineering consult for plss 2.0 mechanical- contractor shall review the plss schematics in context to lessons learned from development of a similar system as part of the shuttle/ISS EMU program. Plss 2.0 pneumo-hydraulic schematics and tests schematic review and discussion; plss 2.0 test objective review and discussion electrical- contractor shall provide electrical harness schematic review; distributed control review and discussion; control algorithm review and discussion. As part of the reviews, the contractor shall consider the lessons learned from the development of the shuttle/ISS EMU. That review includes an assessment of the pros/cons for distributed versus centralized control with respect to harness design and the planned control algorithms and operations. Contractor, will not however, be making nor provide any technical direction associated with the ultimate technical solution, specifications, or design.
